Where 100 ways to make a difference become one.
Social care is made up of hundreds of daily moments - decisions, conversations, actions - All rooted in care, connection and purpose.
Or view all children’s social care jobs
At South Gloucestershire Council, these moments take many forms, but they all lead to one place: the child. Their voice, their needs, their future. Every visit, every plan, every challenge is shaped by one belief: every child’s voice matters. That’s where the difference begins. That’s where 100 ways become one.

What is children’s social care?
What is children’s social care?
Sometimes, a child, young person or their family needs extra support to stay well and safe. That’s when children’s social care steps in – when that support becomes essential.
Families might need a helping hand at different points in their lives. Our services are designed to offer the right support at the right level and time, always with respect, fairness and a strong sense of partnership.
We work with children who:
- Need help maintaining their health or development
- Live with a disability
- Require protection
- Are fostered, adopted or in residential care
Our dedicated social care professionals, like our social workers, carry out assessments and provide advice, guidance and services.
This might include:
- Assessing a child’s, young person’s and family’s needs
- Providing immediate, practical help
- Signposting to other relevant organizations
- Coordinating with other professionals to ensure the right support is in place

"The support I've had in my career has been amazing, it's helped me become the social worker I am today. When you see those children being protected and receiving the right care, that's when you get to say, yes, I've made a difference in the family's lives."
MichellSocial Worker
"I love what I do. I was supported to get my degree in social care, which was a way of progressing in my career and getting a degree without becoming a full-time student. It weas the perfect way to continue working and earning a salary whilst being able to train. That made me realise South Gloucestershire Council was the right place for me."
