Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
We believe everyone should work in an inclusive environment where respect, collaboration and fairness are part of everyday working.
Equality & diversity
We believe everyone should work in an inclusive environment where respect, collaboration and fairness are part of everyday working.
The council is proud to employ people from all diverse backgrounds. We serve a diverse customer base, and our employees bring a wide range of skills, experience and talent which enables us to deliver services of the highest quality for all our communities.
Our people make South Gloucestershire Council a special and inclusive place to work where respect, collaboration and opportunity are part of our everyday working.
Staff equality groups
We have five staff equality groups at the council. The purpose of the groups is twofold: 1) to work together with the council to support the implementation of progressive and inclusive employment practices, and 2) to provide a peer support network amongst colleagues. Our five staff equality groups are:
- Black and Minority Ethnic Staff Network (BME)
- Disabled Employees Group (DEG)
- LGBTQ + Staff Network
- Neurodiverse Staff Network
- Women’s Staff Network
Disability Confident employer
We promote equal opportunities through our recruitment process and a positive culture across our services. Being a Disability Confident employer means that we meet a set criteria under the scheme and that we encourage applicants with a disability to apply for roles within our organisation.
Armed Forces Covenant
We are a Silver award holder of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) for our commitment and support for defence and armed forces personnel.
Age-friendly Employer Pledge
South Gloucestershire Council supports the Age-friendly Employer Pledge, a nationwide programme from the Centre for Ageing Better, aimed at improving recruitment and retention of workers in their 50s and 60s.
The initiative helps employers tackle skill shortages by fostering age-positive workplaces and committing to annual improvements in hiring and supporting older staff.
