How we work
Everything we do is guided by a clear and compassionate framework, ensuring our support for children, young people and families is effective, respectful and always child-centred. Our practice model is built on three core elements:
Signs of safety
We believe in focusing on strengths and building relationships. This approach puts children, young people and families at the very heart of decision-making. We identify what’s working well, create safety through collaboration and empower families to be part of their own solutions.
Systemic practice
We look at the whole picture. It’s not just about the child, but also their relationships, their family, their community and their place in the wider world. This holistic view helps us understand the full context, break down barriers and build support that is tailored and truly long-term.
Trauma-informed
We understand that difficult experiences can have a lasting impact. By recognising and responding to the effects of trauma and adversity, we can better support each child’s emotional wellbeing and help them feel safe, valued and heard.
"The support I've had in my career has been amazing, it's helped me become the social worker I am today. When you see those children being protected and receiving the right care, that's when you get to say, yes, I've made a difference in the family's lives."
Michell
Social Worker
"The training and support you receive here is fantastic, the council wants you to develop as best as you can. It's very supportive and a great organisation to be part of. I feel very fortunate to be able to do this work, the connections that you make with people are really purposeful and I find the work inspiring."
Rich
Senior Social Worker
"I love what I do. I was supported to get my degree in social care, which was a way of progressing in my career and getting a degree without becoming a full-time student. It weas the perfect way to continue working and earning a salary whilst being able to train. That made me realise South Gloucestershire Council was the right place for me."
