Hidden heroes
How we’ve made a difference during the Covid-19 pandemic
All of us have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Here we share a few stories of how our staff have pulled together to support our local communities.
Jade
Jade is a young adult who was previously in care. She now works with one of our partner organisations, caring for those with learning disabilities and complex behavioural needs in a residential home. “I like working at Mayo because I genuinely care for the residents and the staff team are really supportive and friendly. I think it’s really important to carry on working at this time – you can’t give up on people when things are tough.”
Community Shielding Hub
Teams across the council are working together on the Community Shielding Hub, including taking calls and replying to emails that come in about shielding or from those who are self-isolating and need essential supplies. They have been setting up emergency food parcels, answering questions and signposting to local volunteers who can help with shopping and prescription collection.
Lynne and her adult social care team
Working alongside colleagues from Sirona Care & Health in a new pop-up centre, seven days a week to ensure people can be discharged from hospital and quickly get the rehabilitation, Occupational Therapy and social care support they need to continue their recovery.
Our teams continue to work together to help local people and businesses recover from Covid-19. Join us and make a difference.
